You deserve to feel seen in your relationship.

LET’S BE HONEST:

DOES THIS SOUND FAMILAR?

In intercultural relationships, each partner brings their own understanding of what family means and how it should function. Sometimes, we feel pressure to follow the same rules we grew up with to create a "successful" relationship. This often leads to a push and pull of expectations that can affect every aspect of life—family dynamics, finances, religion, parenting, and more.

➡️ Disagreements over how much influence families should have on your relationship or lifestyle.
➡️ Frustration over whose priorities should take precedence—family or personal goals.

➡️ Disagreements on discipline, education, or how to raise culturally balanced children.
➡️ Misunderstandings arising from different interpretations of tone, subtlety, intentions or even trauma history.
➡️ Clashing over time commitments to social or family obligations.
➡️ Disagreements about money management, savings, and financial boundaries.
➡️ Tension over gender roles and expectations for household responsibilities or career prioritization.
➡️ Disputes over which holidays to celebrate or how to divide time between families.

➡️ Struggles to reconcile differing cultural or racial identities within the relationship.

Here are some specifics we may explore in relationship therapy:

  • Finding a balance between familial and cultural expectations and your own values.

  • Address privilege, class, and how our trauma histories impact how you show up in the relationship.

  • Improving communication and conflict resolution skills to help strengthen your relationship.

  • Learn and incorporate new coping skills and strategies to help relieve symptoms you may be experiencing.

  • Navigate how to pull the best of each of worlds and bring them into one.

I get it because I live it.

As a Mexican woman raised in a large collectivist family and now married to a partner from an individualistic Jewish family, I know firsthand the challenges of blending two different cultural worlds. It took time, patience, and intention to adjust and align our vision for how we wanted our life to look together.

I understand the complexity of navigating your intersecting identities and offer guidance, empathy, and practical tools to help you and your partner find balance, harmony, and a shared path forward.

My practice celebrates and affirms LGBTQ+, queer, and BIPOC individuals, providing a safe and inclusive space for all types of love and relationships.
